Camp Kern's Zipline

AMAZING!  An absolute must experience in Cincinnati!  I am super afraid of heights and even I was able to enjoy this.  They build up your confidence by height and length with varying ziplines and then - you hit up the River line - which I got stuck on, twice!  So, in my state of fear I snapped some breathtaking photos.  Ohio is a beautiful, under-rated state to live in.  This is a great way to remind you of the wonderful things there are to do in Ohio.  Not just go and do, but to see.  Living in a big town/little city is not so bad after all, is it? ;)

LX?

What is LX, see for yourself! (just 45 seconds - not epic, I promise)

One of my co-worker's asked for this and I couldn't help but share.  We wrap up O'Bryonville next week and dig into LX's Family Summer Bonanza!  Watch out!

everybody's workin' for the weekend!

That's me!  But it's ok, because right now I am chillin' with my favorite dude on a Thursday morning.  I know, according to my family - I may not be the biggest advocate of my job, but after a good week of thinking, bouncing things off of Rick and really learning to compartmentalize the bad and the good - it really could be worse, in fact, I know it could.
Although the hours are not so delightful at times and the demand can be pretty stress inducing, I do get to do things like work from home (which can be a bad thing too...), collaborate on really great projects, host a podcast, write about things that matter to me and my family, be a Cincinnati advocate and work for a non-profit that focuses on the community rather than the all might dollar.  So... all in all, not a terrible deal.

Do we all wear several hats at the station?  yes.  Does this stress us out on a regular basis?  yes.  But keeping it in the right perspective, it's not so bad.  Do I get to bring Soren into work when Rick and I are scheduled in the evenings together? yes.  Do I get to meet fascinating people and find out about great events on a regular basis? yes.  Do I get to be proud of the work that I accomplish? yes.

Although I have to work weekends and many times weeks in a row without a break.  It still has it's perks.

But don't get me wrong.  The best job I have, is being a mom.

Today - Featuring Features

Features have quickly become one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite things about the LX podcast. Starting last month, Jim and I have been undertaking some really great projects - quickly highlighting awesome things happening in Cincinnati - beyond the podcast.

The monthly casts are great - don't get me wrong, but these quick, energy amped features are a blast to record, produce and compile together.  I just hope everyone enjoys listening to them as much as I enjoy producing them.

Last month we jump-started with local Cincy bands traveling to SXSW on a tour appropriately named MWXSW and caught up with another Queen City band while we were at it.  The features are unique and really bring to the forefront how music culture in Cincinnati is booming - beyond our own stages.

This month - we join with our public radio cohorts in celebrating Public Radio Music Month.  These features cover everything from venues to festivals of Rock, Jazz, and Classical music.  Cincinnati Public Radio is home for 90.9 WGUC, one of the few Classical Public Radio stations here in the nation and NPR continues to support homegrown music on a daily basis - so there is much to highlight.

Next month - is Bike Month in Cincinnati so there will be much to talk about.  Cycling to work, Queen City developments for cyclists of all kinds and support from local business and shops.  A definite tune in!

And don't forget - we have our monthly expisodes as well - this month we featured Mariemont and next OTR - in our own hood!  Can't wait to get started on that one!

Then into the summer, which is sure to rock all our worlds.  We have great things happening this year with a stellar Opera Season with Porgy and Bess and Traviata (yeah - my personal fave!), Bunbury Music Festival and the Choir Games.  My family and I will be spending our free time at Coney and the Zoo, so those will be some of our own personal features to look forward to!

Reasons to be Pretty

And a date night is definitely one of those.  Rick took me on an absolutely, most fantastic date night this past weekend.  We don't get many opportunities to go out together, just the two of us - both by fate and choice.  I can say that both of us were very much looking forward to snuggling with our pumpkin by the end of the evening.  Never the less - the date night was a dream.

One of the many things I absolutely adore about Rick is his taste in literature.  Not just in reading lit. but playwrights and movie makers.  Everything from director and actor to who wrote the original playwright and then the adaptation.  This man is a serious vestibule of knowledge in this culture - which is a very fascinating one.

So one of Rick's favorite playwrites, Neil LaBute - wrote this trilogy (Rick has his favorite author trilogy, while I have my favorite opera one - Glass's Einstein on the Beach, Akhnaten, and Satyagraha), The Shape of Things, Fat Pig and Reasons to be Pretty.  This is when working in Public Radio really has it's perks.  While board opting in the evening, Rick heard a spot from the New Edgecliff Theater that they were performing Reason to be Pretty and he was NOT about to miss it.  So he bought the tickets, asked his mom to babysit (which Mamaw is always amazing about - THANK YOU!!) and took me out on a perfect date.

We started with a couple beers and appetizers at Allyn's up the street and then enjoyed a really, REALLY amazing play.  They are performing until the end of this week and if you miss it, no offense - your a chump.  The acting is fanstastic and the script - one of my favorites.  You must go see this.  And if you are hesitant, watch the Shape of Things and you will very quickly change your mind.  Promise.
